Cultivar Information
“In 1994, from Hartebeespoort near Pretoria in South Africa, Miriam Meltzer reported a clump of orange miniata with petals ranging from absent through distorted to near normal. James ans Connie Abel obtained the clump and called then Frats (Afrikaans for “Freak’) Odd Petals, designated from #0 (no petals) through #1 – #2 – #3 to #4 (slight distortion). while #5 would have normal petals. They are vigorous plants which offset well, with those offsets to a large degree retaining their ‘Frats #” ratings. Stamens and pistils are severely distorted, although some seed is set, perhaps as a result of stray pollen. Disliked by a majority and loved by a minority, specimens are now widely spread in enthusiast collections around the world.” James and Connie Abel
