Welcome to the Northern Clivia Club (NCC). The first organisation of Clivia enthusiasts in the English speaking world started here as the Clivia Club in 1994. As local and international membership in various centres grew, so new groups were formed, beginning with KwaZulu-Natal , and the NCC became an entity on its own separate from the then Clivia Club in 1998. The NCC has grown from strength to strength and currently has approximately 400 members. Our aim is to promote and encourage an interest in the genus Clivia . We are based in Pretoria , also known as the Jacaranda City and the home of the impressive and historical Union Buildings.

Our main activity is the information session held on a Saturday afternoon. Here various specialists share their knowledge and expertise with us. Topics covered include plant cultivation and seed propagation, plant division, shade houses and shade cloth, plant diseases and pests, plant feeding and fertilisation, among others. These sessions also give us the opportunity to introduce and meet our new members and are followed by an informal get together where refreshments are served. Unusual and interesting plants are displayed and discussed and members also offer plants, seeds and seedlings, pots and plant fertilizers for sale. Literature on Clivia can also be purchased.

The Club has a mentor system. These mentors are available to help new members with any problems that they encounter and to guide the new members in building their own personal collections. A list of these mentors is sent to each new member and he or she can select and contact as many of these persons as he or she feels necessary.

The highlight of our year is undoubtedly the annual Clivia Show. This is an occasion not to be missed as the beautiful plants of our members and members of other Clubs will be on display. Plants, seeds and seedlings, pots and potting mixes will also be on sale at the Show.

The NCC  has  interest groups in other towns and cities. These include the the Waterberg Boslelie Group in the Warmbaths/Nylstroom area and the Lowveld Group in Nelspruit.

We have various committees to assist, train and guide members and help with the efficient running of the club. These include:-
–     the Judges Committee that trains prospective judges and also draw up standards, rules and regulations concerning the adjudication of plants at shows,
–     the Show Committee responsible for organizing the annual show,
–     the Sellers Committee responsible for plant sales.
