Description: Registered Cultivar Group: a pendulous flower form grown and “named” by Fred van Niekerk, which was found in the Umtentu River gorge in the uMkambati Reserve about 4 kilometres from the sea, about 25 kilometres south of the Natal-Eastern Cape border. Fred knows this plant well as it was growing in his mother’s Eastern Cape garden in the 1930’s. The first reference to this clivia was probably that of W L Chizziari in a letter dated 14 July 1965, reprinted in the Clivia Club newsletter of April 1995 (Vol 4; No 2), in which he mentions its location as well as other growth differences compared to the other species. It flowers from Feb to April, has up to 49 flowers per umbel, possibly more.
