Cultivar Information
Cultivar Name: Sleeping Beauty
Species: Clivia miniata
Breeder:
Record: Registered Cultivar
Description: Registered Cultivar: A selection named by Johan Conradie. This plant, which won the Grand Champion at the Garden Route 2007 Clivia Show, was purchased as an unflowered seedling from the collection of the late Nico Frik and was given the code F14. It is a suspected tetraploid and investigation will be conducted by Prof Spies. Discussion with Aart van Voorst about the large pollen grains and the slow growth characteristic are leading to a positive outcome. This plant produces stunning bright yellow flowers of overlapping rounded tepals of exceptional substance. The name comes from the Sleeping Beauty mountains behind the town of Swellendam, coupled with the fact that this possible tetraploid beauty takes so long to mature.
