Cultivar Information
Cultivar Name: Albany Yellow
Species: Clivia miniata

Record: For reference
Description: In the early 1980’s, Rod Ellis of South Africa received seed from Harold Koopowitz of America. One parent was the RHS awarded Clivia miniata ‘Bodnant’, from Kew and the other was an unnamed clone of Clivia miniata ‘Aurea’ from Australia. Both parents were very good yellow Clivia for that period. Rod continued to do line breeding from those original seedlings. Amongst others, he selected plants with light variegations ( there was 1 from the original seed) to get to the stage where now there are green leaf, variegated leaf and Akebono leaf yellows. The Akebono only appeared after the eighth generation. The parent lines are not kept separate, but are intercrossed with the light green, variegated and Akebono stock. At time of registering the name (2007) no flowers have been produced on the Akebono Yellow, but hopefully this coming season (Sept 2007) will see the first plants flower. The seed was produced for local sale and it has also been supplied to Easy Orchids in NSW, Australia, for the last 5 – 6 years. Angela Offer, in WA, is promoting material and named this group of yellows.
