Give Your Clivia a Place in History

Register a Plant

Every Clivia is unique - but some stand out for their exceptional beauty, colour, or form. By officially registering your cultivar, you ensure it becomes part of the permanent botanical record maintained by The Clivia Society.

Plant registration provides recognition for the breeder or discoverer, helps prevent duplication of names, and preserves valuable genetic and historical information for future growers and researchers.

Before You Begin

Before submitting your Clivia cultivar, ensure it meets eligibility requirements, is distinct, and is supported by accurate documentation so that the Clivia Registrar Committee can review and approve your submission smoothly.

Eligibility

Any distinct, named Clivia plant - whether bred or discovered - may be submitted.

Verification

Submissions are reviewed by The Clivia Society’s Registrar Committee to confirm uniqueness and adherence to naming guidelines.

Distinctiveness

Your cultivar must show characteristics that clearly differentiate it from existing registered cultivars.

Documentation

Accurate and detailed records are essential. Include high-quality photos and relevant parentage information where available.

Clivia Register Rules

To maintain consistency and accuracy, all registrations must follow the official guidelines below.

A registrant is any applicant, (not necessarily the breeder/owner of the plant in question) who wishes to register a cultivar, while not wrongfully claiming they are the original breeder/owner of said plant. The registrant does not need to be the breeder or raiser.
Parentage details are preferred but not essential.
The cultivar description may include any show results, publications where photographs have appeared, and also the meaning behind the proposed name.
Offsets/clones of a registered cultivar cannot be re-registered under a different name.
There is no cost associated with registering a Clivia cultivar or cultivar group.
Historically/genetically significant cultivars may be registered by the Clivia Society Registrar Committee, where the original breeder of the cultivar is deceased/untraceable.
Should a dispute arise over a specific registration by a party directly affected (breeder, family of deceased breeder of the registered plant in question), the registration will be removed from the registry until the dispute is resolved.
