Oribi Gorge Yellow

Description

This is a habitat plant, the only known yellow to come from the Oribi Gorge area of KwaZulu-Natal.  It was found on the farm "Gibraltar", owned by the late Mrs Nielsen who said "it came up amongst the other orange flowered plants on the farm". Mick Dower got his ‘Oribi Gorge Yellow’ which he swapped for the then rare golden form of Strelizia regina, now called 'Mandela's Gold'. Ammie Grobler had started producing green based seedlings from some clones. Mick Dower applied the name to this form in 1994.This yellow flowered C. miniata doesn't seem to fit into Group 1 or Group 2, based on Mick's breeding results. The full umbel of creamy yellow flowers with a deeper yellow throat takes on a blush hue as the flowers age. Note that the berry is red, not yellow. Leaves up to 700mm long x 55mm wide.
